My name is Doogle and I need help...

My name is Doogle and I need help...

Doogle is a young Chihuahua that was thrown over the fence at the local animal shelter along with 3 other dogs. For 2 of those dogs it was too late, they died of starvation and severe parasite infestation.

Doogle weighed only 2.8 lbs when I took him home to foster. He weighs 3.4 lbs now after only 1 week.

From his behavior it is obvious that this dog had to have been confined in a tiny space all his life.

He does not know what a leash is, nor how to walk on carpet, how to behave around other dogs or humans, never seen a car or a cat or had been held in loving arms.

Doogle is also a very timid dog and needs to be socialized to gain some confidence, and I know just the right place for that. Yes, right here at the Rainbow Wildlife Rescue!

However, there are a few things that need to be taken care of before we can get down to some serious work. Neutering and vaccinations are on top of the list.

Doogle also has a deformity on his hind legs, which is common to dogs that have been confined in small spaces.

It does not seem to bother or hinder him at the moment, but I want a Vet to exam him and tell me if there might be problems with this further down the road and if that is the case, if something can be done to prevent that, such as surgery for example.

Unfortunately I do not have the financial means at the moment to cover the costs and I need help with that.

Rainbow over the Rainbow Wildlife Rescue

Before we let Dolly say hi and show off her mark, I want to share a video I found on the petfinder.com page for the Saide Acres Shelter in Weatherford, Texas that I think everybody needs to see:

Shelter Walkers

And heeeeeeeeeeeeeeere is Dolly in all her beauty!

Here are the six kittens, 4 of the are bobtails:

So many good things happened today, there is not enough time in the day to write it all down! But a big THANK YOU to everybody who made it possible to find homes for the critters that need it the most!!

Bottle-feeding Raccoon Baby and Doug and Doogle, Chihuahua Rescue

Doug and Doogle are still up for adoption as of the date of this posting. They are still showing every bone in their tiny bodies, but have a good appetite.

Doug and Doogle most likely have spent all their lives in a small cage. Doogle has deformities on his hind legs that are typical to this kind of confinement. Both dogs were covered in parasites and anemic as a result. The dehydration and emaciation brought them to the brink of death.

Somebody had a heart and threw them over the fence of the local Humane Society. I foster them at the moment and am looking for a suitable home for those babies.

They do NOT need somebody who pampers them and puts them into a pink purse! They need somebody who addresses and takes the dog in them serious, not the scared human baby looking eyes. They deserve to be a dog, not a human!

Go to petfinder.com for more information on how to adopt them.

Doug and Doogle, Chihuahua Rescue

I went to the shelter this morning to take pics for petfinder.com when I saw these 2 chihuahuas. Both were skin, bones and fleas. Unbelievable infestation. They could not sit for a second without itching. Ticks too. Most pitiful picture!

Somebody had thrown them over the fence at the shelter. I took them home, cleaned them up, gave them a Capstar (to get rid of the fleas), plugged the ticks off one by one and trimmed their already curled nails.

Now they are squeaky clean, don't itch anymore and are eating. Both are unneutered males and have the sweetest personality.

I'll foster them for a few days, get some fat on them and then put them up for adoption:
