2 new Beagle Mix newborns

My wish came true! I got 2 pups, newborn Beagle mixes. Momma rejected all 4, two of them had already died. One of the girls is a bit dehydrated and chilled, but we're working on it. Her sister is almost twice as big. I guess I have the runt and the biggest of the litter here.

Kicker is 3 months old!

Kicker walks great on the leash now and goes with us and the pack to the park every morning. He learned to ignore the barking dogs behind fences, even the loose ones that come running up, he learned how not to get scared of the huge semi trucks and noisy children, even stopped being scared of his own shadow! ;-)

He simply sticks to my leg now or watches what the other dogs do and then does it too. I'm so proud of him!

Quite a Scare!

Buttons gave us quite a scare already. 2 days ago she started throwing up and would not eat or drink for 24 hours. She started to get dehydrated and was whining the entire time..obviously very nauseated and in pain.

I tried a few things from antibiotics to targament to electrolytes, nothing worked. I decided to bring her to the shelter and let them decide what to do with her.

They suggested to give it one more day, because it did not look like parvo or anything of that sort. They gave her a penicillin shot and some de-wormer and I took her back home. She slept for a few hours, woke up and was huuuuuuuungry!!!

So we are all good to go again. She just won't drink from the bottle, has to be the bowl, even though her teeth aren't all through yet..something is up with her suckle reflex or so...never experienced anything like it before.

But whatever works, she can drink the formula out of a bowl and even start on some soft food .

New orphaned Puppy named Buttons

Her name is Buttons. She is approx. 3 - 4 weeks old. Her mother drowned. Homes were found for all the other pups of the litter, but nobody wanted the runt here.

I tried putting her with Kicker and it went ok for 5 minutes, just enough time to take some cute pics lol. Then he just played too rough with her..he's sooooo much bigger.

I have no clue what breed Buttons is. She has the color of a chocolate lab, but the size of a toy breed. Maybe a little bit of Schnauzer around the face?

We have a name and a breed for the Dumpster Puppy

Breed: Akita (maybe a mix, not sure yet)
Name: Kicker (in the hope he grows up to kick the butt of the one who threw him into the trash!)

He started to open his eyes today, so he is approx. 12 days old already. Which makes the situation so much worse in my mind, because it means that he had to have had an owner for almost 2 weeks who then decided to toss the baby into the trash.

I have been going through different possibilities in my mind as to what could have possibly happened that made the puppy end up in the dumpster, but nothing sounds good enough to excuse such affliction of suffering.

Dumpster Puppy

Earlier this evening my doorbell rang. One of our Animal Control Officers was standing there with a tiny puppy on his arm. He was visibly upset. He explained that he had just picked that puppy out of a dumpster and that he will never be able to understand how people could do such a thing.

The puppy full of fleas and very hungry. I detected some congestion, but he was very hungry and suckled on the bottle as if he had never done anything else! I hope he makes it.

I have no idea about the breed yet and I will have to think of a fitting name too!
