Christmas Dogs

Dexter turns out to be a funny dog lol:

The following card I printed out and will send to the people who were involved in Olivia's rescue a year ago. Olivia will be 7 years old on New Year's Eve:

2 Great Danes and 2 Yellow Labs at the Lake

Olliver, Olivia, Butters, and Honey had a blast at the lake today. Olivia and Honey have been to the water for the first time. Honey had no problem and jumped right in and was swimming after the ball within 2 minutes.

Olivia was a bit shy at first, but she did swim a few yards, before she decided it's not for her. Jumping around in the water is one thing, swimming is another, hehehe.

There is so much life in Olivia these days...people stop on the street when they drive by my yard, just to awe at her. And Honey is as sweet as Olivia is pretty...I can't believe how lucky I am to get to keep 2 results of my work. Usually I have to set them free or adopt them out, but this time I get to keep a couple :)))).

Olivia, Great Dane, digs a den

I can't get enough watching Olivia being a real dog and do the things dogs do. Here she is taking full advantage of the "designated dig area, for dogs only!"

She had started to dig this den when she was into the full blown false pregnancy. But this blew over fast, however, the den is still very fascinating to her.

Great Dane in a Chihuahua Bed

Olivia decided it's time to try out our old Chihuahua Mix Sandy's bed. Isn't it amazing how small Danes can make themselves?

For some reason this bed is very loved, since I remember Kicker, the Dumpster Puppy (Great Dane Mix), squeezing himself into it as well:

and Josie with Samson:

Everybody but Sandy LOL!

I pulled Honey's stitches today. She did not move or flinch, I think she didn't even breathe..what a girl! She healed up well. The last stitch removal was sort of a finalizing moment, because with that she is ready to start living now.

We'll plan to take all the dogs out to Proctor Lake next week on a long hike. This is going to be fuuuuuun.

Puppies and Olivia Updates

The 4 Border Collie Pups are nearly 5 weeks old. I printed out a flyer and took it to the shelter. Hopefully it will catch some doglovers' attention. Aren't they adorable???

And here is a picture of Olivia. She spends today at the Animal Health and Medical to receive medication in order to get rid of the heartworm larvae in her blood stream. The adult worms should be dead by now, if I understood that correctly.

Spaying is up next!

Olivia, day 9 of her Heartworm Treatment

Olivia has not needed pain medication in a few days now and she feels good. Her appetite still lacks a little, but she's not in pain anymore. She wants to play with the other dogs, but has learned that she needs to stay quiet and then she gets her cuddles and all is good :).

She also came out of heat finally, which helped a lot to calm her down too!

I think Honey is about to start though!! I set up her appointment to be spayed for next week Wednesday. There was no earlier appointment available. I hope she won't start with the "mess" before that!

The 4 Border Collie puppies are doing great too. The only male and runt could grow a bit bigger for my taste, but he appears to be ok, except that he's half the size of his 3 very strong sisters.

They are spending most of their time outside in the sun now, but get hot really fast, so they need a lot of shade too and wet towles to sleep on. They love wet towels. Honey still cares for them, but is totally dried up.

We are going to start the puppies on solids today, this is going to be fuuuuuun and very very messy! I will post pictures later!

Olivia feels better

Olivia, Sandy, and Honey eating together. Olivia will not eat when she is alone or even locked up in her pen.

She is feeling a LOT better than yesterday and almost a handful to keep calm today. She wants to run and play, and it's breaking my heart to have to hold her back, but it can harm her tremendously if I would allow it, so I keep reminding myself of that constantly.

Olivia, Honey, Josie, Oliver, Butters, Sandy and 7 puppies

5 newborn Border Collies thrown out of a car in a walmart plastic bag.

Honey taking care of them. She does not have enough milk anymore, so
I usually feed them and she does the rest.. cleans them and lets them suckle.

Honey and one of her own daughters (I have 2 females left from her litter
and they will go to the shelter tomorrow for adoption. I need room!)

Honey's other daughter

Olliver and Olivia (front)
Olivia is in heat now ( MESSY!!! ), so we had to put the heartworm
treatment off for a week.

The danes playing :)

Josie, the chocolate lab mix..she goes back to the shelter tomorrow for
adoption. If she is not being adopted right away, I will have her spayed
this week. My vet said I can work that off.

Here is the rest of the gang..Olivia to the right, Sandy (16 years old) behind
her, Butters the lab to the left and behind him, Gremlin, our tomcat who is
obsessed with dogs!
